Core group meetings are held monthly. If you have anything that you would like to
be brought up at any meeting please contact a Core Group member.
The Scottish Manual Handling Forum was formed in November 2000. It meets twice yearly
in venues around Scotland. It evolved from a gradual amalgamation of two previous
groups; the central Scotland group of the National Back Exchange and the Lanarkshire
Moving and Handling Advisor Network. It comprises moving and handling professionals
from the NHS, local authorities, education sector and the private sector. In June
2006 the Forum voted unanimously to progress towards becoming an affiliated group
of the National Back Exchange.
The Core Group is made up of elected members of the forum. If you are interested
in becoming a member of the Core Group please contact one of the existing members.
“In 2007 those in attendance at the Scottish Manual Handling Forum (SMHF) meeting voted in a large majority to proceed with becoming an affiliated local branch of the National Back Exchange (NBE). Since then members of the Core Group have worked to achieve the various requirements of such affiliation – constitution, elected core group, audited financial accounts. As a result of these efforts the SMHF became affiliated to NBE just before the NBE national conference in September 2008. There are many benefits to this affiliation, not least of which being access to a further community of experience and expertise – details of all the benefits of the NBE can be found at www.nationalbackexchange.org.uk As current Chairperson of the Core Group I’d like to thank all the members of the Core Group for their efforts in achieving affiliation to the National Back Exchange in what is still an entirely voluntary role.” Jason Nicol SMHF Chairperson, Risk Management Advisor (Moving & Handling) / Team Leader - Mental Health & Learning Disability Services, NHS Grampian
